Hotel and Restaurant Perpöin Saluzzo - Cuneo
Welcome !
Saluzzo enjoys a wonderful location on the the hills between the Bronda and the Varaita valleys. It is plunged between Vineyards and Orchards, fruits of an agricolture which has been always supported by a mild climate.
Not so far from the Monviso,
the king of stone, with its refuges and ski tracks and
from Alba, the town famous for the truffle and for esteemed
wines such as Barolo, Dolcetto, Barbaresco…Saluzzo is surrounded by medieval Castles, today seats of important museums: for example the royal palace of Racconigi, which was the favourite of the king Carlo Alberto of Savoy or the Manta’s Castle with its medieval frescos about the source of the youth…Saluzzo is all this but something more:
Since 1142 a small reign,
the Marquisate of Saluzzo, founded its independence thanks
to a wise policy of alliances and weddings between France
and the Savoy. Its magnificent court speaks to us through
that late Gothic treasures which underline its happiest
period. Its lands are like a twisted half-moon, which glitter
in the darkness. Here we find castles, Abbeys, small villages
and parish churches. Between high Mountains we find the
mysterious frescos of Elva… between the cornfields we find the medieval atmosphere of the Staffarda’s Abbey.... The Lagnasco, Castellar, Manta and Costiglioles’ castles crown the plain with its cultivated fields. At the end we find Saluzzo, the capital of this small treasure, which offers a fine foreshortening to curious eyes. It is sufficient to walk around its old walls, to see the Castiglia prison and to visit the Cavassa’s museum and the gothic church of S. Giovanni to appreciate this town and its history.
